Today’s bathrooms aren’t the spare, utilitarian spaces they once were. Luxurious, spa- like features and finishes are the current design trend.  So how does that apply to lighting? Well, thanks to thousands of styles, finishes and features, your bathroom lighting can be just as interesting as your tiles and fixtures!

But, first things first. No matter how simple or lavish it is, a well-lit bathroom is your goal. Remember that form follows function.  If your lighting isn’t properly illuminating the room, what’s the point?  Depending on the size of your bathroom – and whether you have natural light – you may only need general lighting. For example, an overhead fixture, or vanity lights. If the room is larger, you may need additional light sources, like a light in the shower or lights for grooming tasks.

Depending on your personal style – or the style of the room – bathroom lights can range from traditional to contemporary, vintage to artisanal. They may include a variety of finishes – gleaming glass, satin nickel, shiny chrome, antique copper, rustic bronze. And they may take a range of forms – wall sconces, vanity lights, pendants or other types of accent lights. Even the light bulbs can create a look – from traditional incandescents, to cooler, more modern fluorescents and LEDs.
