Products You Should & Shouldn’t Use to Clean Your Re-Bath Bathroom

Cleaning Products That Are Approved

First thing’s first: we want to identify which cleaning products we can confidently tell you are safe to use on Re-Bath bathtubs, shower bases, and wall systems. These solutions should always be properly diluted following the instructions on the manufacturer’s label, even if dilution isn’t noted below.

Note: Products marked with an asterisk (*) may not be ideal for cleaning glass tub or shower enclosures.

Also worth noting: just because we’re saying you can use these products doesn’t guarantee that they’ll be effective! Depending on how dirty your bathroom is, how hard your water is, what kind of soaps you use, and so many other variables, these products may or may not leave your bathroom squeaky clean. All we’re saying is that these products are safe to use.

We also recommend avoiding harsh chemicals, lime removers, toilet bowl cleaners, or any other chemicals that we didn’t list as “approved cleaners” in the first section. The last thing you want is for these products to crack or dull your beautiful new bathroom remodel!

Avoid the use of products containing vinegar, bleach, abrasive powders and liquids, and steel or Teflon pads when cleaning metal or glass surfaces.

We do not suggest using Drano in your new shower, sink, or bathtub—rather, you should remove the drain and use a snake to clear any blockages in your drain. Drano or other similar drain cleaners could cause permanent discoloration and damage to your new liners or other materials in your bathroom.

Specific Cleaning Instructions for Re-Bath Bathrooms

cleaning-bathroom

In general, cleaning a Re-Bath bathroom isn’t terribly different from cleaning any other bathroom! We always suggest using non-abrasive soap and water when possible, and reviewing the instructions on your household cleaners before use. And of course, be sure to rinse thoroughly after each cleaning!

However, we often hear more specific cleaning questions from our bathroom remodeling clients, so we want to address them all in one place so you can refer to our answers anytime you need them.

How to Clean the Slip Resistant Bottom of the Tub or Shower

The easiest way to clean the slip resistant bottom of your Re-Bath tub or shower is by scrubbing it gently with a soft nylon brush using any of the approved cleaners we mentioned in the first list above. You can use straight Palmolive dish detergent on any stubborn stains, too!  Be sure to avoid using abrasive brushes or pads (such as ScotchBrite) or any other abrasive products.

How to Clean Light Scratches on Your Bathroom Products

If you see a scratch on your wall-surround, mirror, or shower enclosure, don’t panic! Light scratches can be removed (and the original gloss of the product fully restored) by using any of the following products:

  • Micro-Gloss
  • Mirror Glaze
  • J-Wax Turtlewax
  • Kit Wax Products

How to Clean Stubborn Stains

Though we don’t recommend using these items regularly during your cleaning routine, if you’re struggling with a particularly stubborn stain or are in a heavy cleaning situation, we can safely advise using the following products:

  • Ajax Ultra
  • Comet Homecare Gel
  • Grease Lightening
  • Comet Crème

How to Prevent Hard Water Scale & Soap Scum

An estimated 80 percent of households in the U.S. have hard water, which leaves mineral deposits behind after it evaporates. As you’re well aware if your home has hard water, soap doesn’t lather particularly well in hard water, and the excess soap then forms soap scum! This soap scum forms a layer in your shower or tub, which becomes a place for mildew to grow if not promptly cleaned with the proper products.

You can use the following products to fight hard water deposits and soap scum:

  • Clorox Clean-Up
  • Clorox Regular
  • Formula 409
  • Rub-a-Dub Tub Scrub
  • X-14 Soap Scum & Bath Cleaner

How to Prevent & Remove Mildew Growth

Mildew does not grow on Re-Bath products—but it does grow on built up soap scum and hard water scale! If you don’t keep up with fighting hard water deposits and soap scum using the products above, mildew could potentially grow on the soap scum that is left behind from your hard water.

The best way to remove mildew in your shower is by making a paste with baking soda and bleach. Spread the paste on the affected area, then let it stand until the mildew is gone! Then, use the products listed above to prevent mildew growth from occurring again. Prevention is key!
