It’s pretty easy to select a bathroom vanity or even a shower head that you love, but picking bathroom paint colors means you have to consider a nearly endless number of options.
Some designers say that the bathroom is where you implement lots of color. Others will take a more neutral approach, encouraging subtle grays or whites. So which is right for your space?
At Re-Bath & More, we don’t think there’s one right way of selecting the paint for your bathroom walls, but there are a few things to consider to narrow down your options and help you pick the perfect paint color.
As you begin collecting bathroom design ideas, consider these five bathroom paint color tips:
1. Brainstorm What Colors You Like
Before you begin, throw out all your fears or preconceived notions about what colors you think work well in your bathroom. Start by selecting every color you like to form your color pallet. After you’ve picked a wide variety of colors, narrow down your tops choices by considering how those colors will work with other design elements in your bathroom.
Next, look at your color choices in different lights, and at different times throughout the day, to help you get a better idea of what they’ll really look like.
2. Pick a Mood
Once you have selected some paint colors you like, think about the mood you want in your bathroom. Are you hoping for it to be a light, open and airy space, or do you want a warm and luxurious retreat? Color can determine the entire mood of your bathroom.
Generally, cool blues and light grays are soothing, while deeper and darker colors support a more elegant feeling in the room. Maybe none of the colors you initially selected reflect the mood you want. Pick up your color pallet again to find a color you feel reflects that mood.
3. Try Out Samples with Wall Canvases
Many designers suggest painting your top color choices right on the wall to get the full effect of what the room will look like. However, if you don’t want to deal with a messy process of painting the wall, we suggest you buy a few 8-by-10 flat canvas boards from the craft store, and paint one in each of the colors you’re considering. This way you can hang a few canvases on the wall without actually painting the wall. We also like this approach because you can move the canvases around the room to see the color in different lighting.
4.Neutral Colors Never Go Out of Style
If you want color in your bathroom, you don’t have to use colorful paint. A good alternative is to select a neutral color and incorporate color with your other design elements. Neutral colors are always a good option because they’re not overpowering and they allow flexibility for future bathroom design changes.
5. Consider the Light in Your Bathroom
If you’re going for a deep, rich wall color in your bathroom be sure that you have sufficient natural light, or that you are installing the proper bathroom light fixtures. Even if you want your bathroom to be warmer in color, you’re still going to need enough light to shave or apply makeup. If your bathroom brings in lots of natural light, be careful not to choose a color that will be washed out with excess light.
